As you know I did promise something… Unfortunately I could not come in on my promise but I do have something good besides adding 4 letters to my display name… I got 99 Smithing… And now my method in one long Arduous post!

Blast furnace Smithing Guide

You may have heard of the words Blast Furnace in the past but if you wanted to try it here is some information to help you learn it.

———-Why Blast furnace?———–

• ½ ore costs (Steel needs 1 ore mithril needs 2, Adamantite needs 3 and Runeite needs 4)
• 100% Success rate on iron ore to bar conversion! (Like uperheat item)
• Cheap ores that restock Daily
• Train other skills slightly while training smithing
• Work as a team as you all achieve one common goal

Requirements?

None really to just place and smelt ore. (At a price)

Reccomendations

• 60 smithing! This is important! I recommend this as the furnace costs 2,500 coins to use for 10 minutes if you are under level 60! This also allows you to use the magic anvils!
• 30 Agility So you can run the conveyor belt
• 30 firemaking to light the furnace
• 30 Strength to pump hot air into the belly of the furnace to make bars
• 30 Craft to fix the low quality pipes that the blast furnace uses.

————Items, what should I bring with me?—————

Everyone

• Coins! Unoteing ores, paying the fee if under 60 smithing or even buying ores!
• Varrock armour For smithing faster after produceing your bars!
• Sacred Clay hammer for x2 smithing xp and x2 the tiny craft xp if you decide to fix the pipes with the sc hammer
• Ring of charos (activated) if under 60 smithing this will make 10 minutes at 1,250 coins and can save you money!
• Lightweight gear If you are not going to be smithing there or you will be bank running… Bring these! You can really reduce weight costs with them and they will really help on the bike!
• Explorer ring It recharges your run up to 3 times daily!
• Noted coal! Ordan will unote your coal for you! So if you are bringing your own coal…  He will unote it for cheap!
• Alchemy runes If you are high alching bring these! You can sit and alch while loads get done if you must. (you may get angry smithers though if you are not helping when help is needed)
• Goldsmithing Gauntlets If you are smithing gold… this WILL give you a bonus on gold smithing at the blast furnace like a normal furnace!

If you are going to be making mithril or lesser bars

• Noted ore of the type you are making! Ordan will unote any ore under Mithril except blurite or elemental (ether are not commonly used for training and are not useable in the furnace)

If you are making addy or rune bars

• Beast of Burden! You will be making bank runs! This will be your extra ore! I was hauling 30 ore back and forth with a spirit terrorbird and my inventory! If you have a pack yak you can hold 50 ore a trip if you really wanted to do this (that’s a lot of time saved). It’s all in what you choose.

————-Reaching the blast furnace————

You have a lot of options to go to the blast furnace!

• The mine cart system leads you just south west of the entrance! You can run to the ge buy your supplies and run back with this! Or from the mining guild or white wolf mountain! (recommended!)
• You can come from the train after Another slice of H.A.M.
• Walk from Relleka or Seers Village! You can easily do this if you don’t have another way!
• D-K-S Fairy ring teleport. Another easy way it summons you right outside of Keldagrim!
• Inferior locator Locate iron it may bring you close to keldagrim!

Keldagrim’s entrance is near the rock crabs do not go on the hill! Look for the two dwarven miners for the entrance and pass through the crack too! Then take the boatman into the town.

——I got here now what do I do?——

This is the meat and potatoes of the guide… once you are in the blast furnace you may be daunted by the room and Bertha herself. (the foreman named it try examining the pot if you don’t believe me!). If you are under level 60 smithing talk to the blast furnace foreman by the water and pay him!  If you are over 60 smithing… don’t bother with him he won’t bother you! He will show you a map if you are a first timer to the furnace (but you could read this…).

First talk to ordan he is by the conveyor belt ramp and dosen’t move! He will unote your ore for you if you use it on him!

He will not unote more spaces than you have in your inventory!

Now that you got your ore walk up that conveyor belt ramp and place your ore on the belt! Once it is there anyone can see it! However no one not even yourself can take it! So place carefully if you make a mistake you can’t undo it!

Now that your ore is in place… here is the fun part the transition from ore to bar!

Now for the conveyor belt to move it needs man power! Someone needs to pedal the conveyor belt! Once you pedal… you will see your ore fall into the furnace once it does it will be counted and saved. (DO NOT LOG OUT WHEN YOUR STUFF IS ON THE BELT! YOU MAY LOSE IT!) Once it’s in the pot it will stay between sessions, membership renewals until the end of Runescape! The max coal it will take in is 201 coal. Though it should probably be 226 coal and 28 ore. Best way to prepare is to find out how much ore you’re going to smith and split into loads. For example my 30 addy runs would use 90 a trip, So I would put in 180 ore (2 trips) and refill every other trip.

Bike and all the parts that can break on it…

If you are doing mithril feel free to put 200 in and then in turn up to 100 mith! However you need to wait for bars to come out!  As each load allows up to 28 bars at a time. Once you reach 28  it will not smith that bar again until you take some bars out (watch out steel makers I had that happen and I got 28 steel and 12 iron before). You can see how much coal is in the furnace by checking the ore dispenser! It will tell you the status of how much coal is in the furnace!

It will not say how much other ore is there though…
Once your ore is in the belly of the beast the heat has to be made. This is where the furnace comes in! you must take a spade and shove coke into the furnace. I like to pump until it just turns red when soloing (more on that later) but some like to fill it to the max.
As long as it’s not cold you will be ok. Once it’s hot or to your liking move on to step 3!

The pump and the furnace also see the Spade spawn!

The Pump is where you will push heat in! Now this step is what makes the bars and can be lethal if not watched carefully! You will be pushing air into the furnace making pressure to smelt the bars! Just pump until the bars come out you may pump until it’s too hot but do not over pump or you will take 20% of your health in damage (You can die from this if you respectively do this). You can rotate the camera to see when the bars are done by the liquid and the orange molten look on the dispenser (to come later). For those with sounds it will also make a sound effect as well!

Owies! That hurts every time…

Now for a little pause from the machine to explain the gauge. The temperature gauge explains the machine status. If a part is broken… It will say it’s broken if the stove is cold it will ask to add coke! If it’s green your bars are ready if it’s red it’s too hot and if it’s white it’s too cold. This is an important part and you MUST communicate if you are this part.

Now that we walked around the machine Let’s look at our completed bars… Oh wait they may be molten still! If this happens just use a bucket of water on the bar dispenser (this will cool any other people’s bars as well)! You will see from 0-28 bars in the metal of your choice once you see the bars you may take 1 at a time or the whole lot at once! After you get some bars feel free to put more ore in to keep a cycle going while you move on to the next step!

—————–Broken parts—————–

I mentioned broken parts during these steps… The conveyor belt, gears for the conveyor belt and pipes to the furnace can break! When any part breaks no heat goes in to the furnace (even if it’s the belt falling off how odd). Also when the conveyor breaks the ore won’t move. To fix this hit repair with a hammer in your inventory! (regular or sc hammer will do). You can see if the part is broken as the pipe will be disconnected or the conveyor will be showing signs of something broken. As well the gauge reader can tell you the word broken part.

—————The last step————-

Now that you got your bars… you can either go bank them if bank running for later OR you can smith them on site! There are anvils to the north for your pleasure. It requires 60 smithing to use them though. Other than that they are normal anvils. If you are making stackables or alching items you can sit down there if you are using Mithril or less and just smith, smith, and smith until you are done. Remember, Varrock armor does work like it should allowing some items smithed faster.

————– What NOT to do—————

We went over some of the concepts and all the steps… However there are some things you should NEVER EVER DO! Here they are with examples!

1.    Covering Ordan. You can annoy people by putting a cannon or grave over Ordan! This will cause people to click the grave or cannon and not Ordan or worse use item on Ordan. Infact people have been saying they will remove the cannon if you pay them! This CAN be taken as Item scamming and is reportable!

2.    Small pets. It’s best not to bring small pets when smithing but if you must… KEEP THEM OFF THE BELT! This is like above on Ordan all you are doing is making people mad who come to smith. They like to left click and not be bothered with right clicking. This can also be again be done with the grave stone!

3.    Marker plants… Another bane as they can be used as above.
What happens if you do this? I can’t help you now from screaming and flaming. As well you may get reported if you demand money or items. There is topics on the forms ASKING for those items to be banned from the blast furnace.

—– I forgot the tools! I need what do I do!—————

Every item you need can be found in Keldagrim or in the furnace itself!

• Ore rocks are found in Keldagrim as well as around the boatman area.
• Hammer respawns on the table against the north wall east of the anvils.

• Bucket of water respawns right next to the pool of water
• Spade respawns right next to the coke deposit for you to utilize!

——— What should I make?————

This part is very open ended… If you want to smith for money… You need to look at the GE and compare ore costs to all prices! At the time of this writing Addy arrow tips are 2400 for 15 (1 bar). Now the ore costs are 1917 (1 addy ore 3 coal). This means selling them is a net gain of 483gp per bar! 20 bars 9,660 gp in profit! On two terrorbirds (almost 1 hour) I was making 240 bars or 115K an hour! (only an estimate remember). Who says you can’t make money with smithing? Remember that the average is affected by how many trips, what you make and how long it takes to make the bars (the person factor is the most random part of the equation).

——-Can I solo this beast?——–

You can solo this! I did it before I went to the official world of 58 to work with a lot of other smithers. To do so… You need to follow the steps below.

1. Add ore
2. Place ore in furnace
3. Heat stove (when it turns red add 1 more scoop usually works well but your choice on how hot you want it)
4. Pump and fix when needed.
5. Stop when you see/hear bars come out!
6. Cool the bars
7. Smith
8. Wash rinse and repeat!

Doing this you don’t have to leave! You can have 3000 mith and 6000 coal and just sit there making mithril arrow tips until you get your 15K tips! (they sell ok 189gp for 15 or… 567,000 gp profit!)

—————–Tips for free——————-

• SC hammers! Bring them! Use them! Live with them! You will be there forever with a normal hammer! Also, some people do bring up a certain clan chat on the world of 45 every now and then as well as others!
• Beast of burden if you are bank running! Do that live with it and love it’s company!
• Be the good kind of smither and try to help when you can people will like you and you may level some other skills!
• The pump raises strength at 4 per second
• The Bike raises agility at 2 per second Some people may go and just ride the bike or pump all day! (it’s been done and is a thanked service)
• Fixing pipes is 50xp (100 with sc hammer) each fix!
• Firemaking is 5xp per load (dunno about the penance horn helping).
• Each person you cool besides your bars at once is an additional 1xp per person’s load! (so if 5 people’s are also cooled it’s 5xp even if 3 of them have only 1 bar in there needing to be cooled!)
• WATCH THE GE! If you keep an eye on costs and how much they sell you can make a good amount of gp!
• Buy out ordan! He sells lots of cheap ore! Under GE price! Saves you even more costs!
• Use your kingdom’s coal! 546/3=182 Adamantite bars. Making 87,906 gp alone! Add in the 3 gems and what else you can even make more cash!
• Mine your own ore! If you are really Ambitious mine your own ore! Pay nothing! Make all your cash.

I know I haven’t posted in a while. I wanted to surprise you with the 99 party video… Sadly it isn’t comming together like I wanted. I do have some news. I am no longer in college! I actually graduated may 9. Also to make things better I have been smithing. I got 92 almost 93 as I type. I also am Now ranked in the clan SC claymates (I have been for a while just never posted it). If you haven’t heard of it It is a non-killing Stealing creation clan. If you looked at the RSBANDB/RS HS today…you will see I am 97 mining! hey I am two days ahead on that prediction! With the good news comes the bad on this mini-post…Another class got cancled…yep sad to say…I now have 2 canceled classes… I guess things just keep rolling along… Also I was at C-wars like I said…went 1-1 yesterday 2 kills 0 scores each game…mabye I just stink at it? Quote from Monty Python and the holy grail. Now for recent news… If you have seen my MSN title for December it said “worst week ever…”, That was a misnomer… here’s a quick list of what hell I have been through this month.

• One of my finals had to be done twice due to the printer not being on the computer’s network.
• Had to rush off campus before the massive Ice Storm hit just made it off when the worst started…
• One of my projects for my final is missing a part I thought I turned in…Turns out if anything it’s at school(can’t get it until the 12th…
• Found out my grandmother is in the hospital sunday before x-mas…

• day after tried a game I bought used and ended up having disk errors (I can fix this)
• Found out if I don’t get that part of my project in I get a F for the semester EVEN THOUGH I missed none of my assignments and got A’s and B’s on all my assignments

Let’s just say that’s the bulk of the problems that happened this month… Oh also my grandmother just got operated on again today… I won’t give details as well… you won’t be able to eat, sleep, or control bowel functions.

Remember I said 99 mining a while back? and I still don’t have it? well… I am NOT stopping now… I have a new plan for success with 2 people ready to beat me with spiked clubs if I start to slack… The name of this is called…

100K a Day for 30 days

As of yesterday my XP was 10,034,431 in mining. Now the lvl for 99 is 13,034,431. So by doing math… we see 3 million is my need. Now for the 100K… 100,000*30= 3,000,000. So for 30 days I am keeping a Excel book on how I am doing mining. Now to prevent burn out I added some activities.

1. Kingdom…Daily check must mark how much put in (not taken out)
2. Battlestaves Varocc armour 3 allows 64 battlestaves from zaff daily… so every day I will make and alch 64 battlestaves!
3. pineapples…Super compost is a farmer’s friend and pineapples are a way to make it. So every day I will collect 40 pineapples this coinsides with above via a seller (in catherby) for the pineapples and seaweed (just need sand from bert…)
4. Next when Jagex releases an update as a quest or a diary I will jump on it asap. today was an example with the 8 minute quest…In pyre need.
5. The next anti-burnout helper…Weekly pengun, tears of guthix and circus fun! I need not say more.
6. The final thing… RSBANDB events! I will be attending the monthly Castle wars, KBD, and Great orb project. (HAHAHA to anyone who said no one would show I need RC XP and nats and this will help!) I am currently on the fence on the KQ event.

Also I will spend time after or when I know I will achieve my goal of 100K that day doing other things. Today I did 2 games of stealing creation… lost but atleast I got 21K a game for the 2 games I played! The morphing tool is interesting…makes up for the time and a little xp back but… not a good sure fire way of winning a SKOTM by anymeans unless you put 400 or so ATLEAST in your bank (and members know that’s only 96 spaces for your junk) but it’s a good boost…

Now for the Approximations unlike blizzard I give dates…(starcraft 2)

Well how often do I start with a pic? that is the new litter of kittens I got from the mother above…Sadly they are dying thank to the mother. We think that the mother got a hold of something on her she shouldn’t have… Oh well what can you do? Serogate mother? Now for how I did it…Granite mine the most common trick in the book. Here is opperation sandblaster…

List of reqs

• 45 mining (or no granite :P)
• rune pick (atleast 1 but up to 10 will work more is beter) I used 10
• desert gear (any will work)
• Enchanted water tiara (with 10K+ charges atleast) You need this unless you want to swap out picks for waterskins and humidify as staying is vital to the plan
• Optional friend to bank and repair picks for granite 500g
• optional stat spy to look at noobs stats to see if it is a worthy fight
• optional cure me heals poison from accidental plant attacks
• optional badge to travel to lunar islands easy banking
• optional lunar isle tele can be used in swap of home port to lunar isle for simplicity sake
• optional varocc tele tab quick hop to varocc to ensure that you can sell your 500g if you want
  
• RECCOMENDED Camulet with alot of dung in bank this will allow you to keep your camulet recharged and quick tele from wherever to the mine. (hmm mine to lunar isles and back quick bank?)
• RECCOMENDED patience it will help…Between spot noobs and slow levels you need this…
• RECCOMENDED music Not rs music this will help with keeping sanity when mining

Now we got the stuff… the instructions

1. Choose a time to start I chose 10:00 as I needed to regulate my schedule
2. At 10:00 BE AT the mine like it is a job
3. Start music program note a longer playlist formed beforehand is beter
4. Start mining
5. keep mining till near full or if you have one a friend to come at a set time or be called in
6. give stuff to bank or friend and give load of granite as a thank you
7. if needed fix picks or at this time give an even amount of fixed for broken the trade is not balanced but normally not 3K+ off
8. keep mining
9. Go to bed at a normal time I was going 12:00 so I had 18 hours up and 6 down
10. Eat sleep and do everything you can at the comp wireless is a god here (one that I don’t have
    
11. Enjoy your win

Incase of spot noobs stat spy if you have stat spy use it and see if you want to fight or world hop or move your spot.

Know the map use a 3 spot going left then right or whatever and drop immediately. you can do 2 or a non moving spot but I seem faster plus keeps me alert and more focused and I am saying how I did it.

Now incase of poison…cure me! if you don’t have it anti or tough it out Strange plant is not a strong poison if you are good!

Conneticon 2008!

It’s that time again! I got to go to Conneticon 2008 again after missing line con 08! Well here we go.

Thursday

Rynne came up we hung out got food and all such stuff. Stayed up until 2 said we won as she was my “Spotter” and my insperation to do skotm. Then we slept yea nothing interesting…

Friday

5:30 wake up…stop at dunken and then move on! Got at the convention center at 7:30 AM stood in line played musical chairs all the norm… Got the badges and waltzed around the center waiting for opening cerimonies at 10:00 am! At 12:00 we went to michael mookie Terraccaino’s Dominic Deegan pannel again. as it is a Q&A it’s ever changeing and allways funny. Now getting out we raced to the dealers room and got the Church of gaming poster that Tim Buckley had in Limited Edition! Rynne got herself a players poster (the one of 1-4 about to kill each other may have been seen on the forums). Also YES they are signed. then we completed our Dominic Deegan book collection. Then rynne and I learned to sew Plushies… stupid stiches… and stupid hands… Yes my hands hate my brain and I lack motor skills… but after checking out the place we had to retreat as rynne was going down…

Saturday

Saturday got their later than the day before…browsed waited for 11:30 for the AMV contest with my friends. 3 words about the videos. They were awesome! (I will tag some of my faves later).  Then at 2:00 we got to see how a Tea ceremony is conducted…well… from afar as there was Many many people there… After that we went to a q&A on writing books for RPG’s it was interesting and we learned alot. Then we met Robert Picardo from Star Trek Voyager (Scream He did a star trek refrence!). After spending $20 per autograph we got tickets for his and ethan phillips’s commedy skit house call. We had to wait till 9 as it got pushed back and so we did. At 9 we had to wait to 9:10 as well…they got delayed. I am not going to describe it but it was Hilarious! If you know that a Telaxian is a race of being, The Doc of star trek voyager is a hologram and “A low threshold of entertainment” then you will enjoy it! We were laughing constantly throughout. Then we had a long drive home!

Only one thing happended we saw…COSPLAY CHESS! Now I could go explain it but I will be lazy and tag a video later! THat’s it sat back and enjoyed the week

As you may know I have been working on skotm…Besides dealing with people who don’t know how to mine except on someone rocks with AN EMPTY quarry… and the annoying you should noobs…I have been trying to keep up with mining to 99…Right now I am going to be at 96 by the 31st. Now for the lvl 99 estimate…August 16. As you might know that is my B-day. As you may knew a party was going to be planned…Well guess what? PARTY IS CANCELED! yep no 99 party for you! Why you may ask? I present the following reasons…

•  No funds I can’t pay off my deamon butler and right now all my money is going to rynne for holding almost all my gems.
• lack of respect from the community you evidently know who you are but since 85 I was debating on not throwing one seeing as the rsbandb community DOES NOT seem to care…
  
• all the problems I got over the month slowing me down from completing my goal from other members and also from other people add to this list
• Infact the quote “This is runescape…not LEWENT get 99’s” makes the next point clear
  
• WHO THE FUCK ON THE COMMUNITY CARES? Why should I throw a party for people if they don’t care so now my retort to you is “This is runescape not have a party for acheveing lvl 99!”

Apparently shane getting 99 herblore or farming is a big deal even other mods getting 99’s…But me? no one seems to care… so here’s my final staitment as probably brad would like to say…FUCK YOU!
